Mehndi, also known as henna, is an ancient form of body art from South Asia and the Middle East. In Pakistani tradition, the application of mehndi on the bride’s hands and feet is an important ritual that takes place before the wedding ceremony. Customarily the Mehndi ceremony was an event where the bride would have her hands and feet painted, while her friends danced to entertain her through the long process. The contemporary Mehndi ceremony is a colourful event where the bride and her family receive the groom and his family; the two families come together  to sing and dance in celebration of the upcoming nuptials.
